Reasons I May Surely Die on Saturday

(***It is currently Saturday, April 3....and I just found this draft and realized I never posted it!! It wasn't done, but I am going to post it anyway :) ***)

So, Jillian and I signed up for an indoor triathlon on Saturday (February 13, 2010) in St. Louis. A few months ago when we registered, it sounded like a great idea...the perfect thing to get us out of our winter "funk." We both love to be active, have a general appreciation for competitive events, and were enticed by the idea of an "indoor tri"...something new for both of us.

Well, months later....and we're still securely both in "said funk"...maybe even further down the rabbit hole of not-necessarily-warranted-dispair than we were before (recognizing that we don't REALLY have huge, awful, terrible things to REALLY get our panties in a bunch about). However, we're not necessarily in a good place right now regarding some aspects of our lives, namely some aspects of our job.

Some days (many days) I feel like far too much of my life revolves around my job. I mean, it's one thing to be passionate about one's career...it's another thing completely to begin to feel obsessed with it (think obsessed over billable hours/productivity) and to feel as if you are truly owned by your place of employment. I am not in any way, shape, or form bashing my place of employment....I truly do love it, all things considered....but I'm just in a mental fog lately which I think is spurred on by a variety of both internal and external factors. I do not want anyone from my workplace to be offended by any of this (if anyone would happen upon this!)....but this is my blog and I guess I can write about what I am feeling, can't I?! ;) Anyway, said obsession has left less-than-an-ideal amount of time to pursue my OTHER passions....

...like knitting, reading, traveling, having a clean house, scrapbooking, crafting/creating in general, blogging (ha!!)...and RUNNING, SWIMMING, and BIKING...and oh, did I mention RUNNING?! (ok, fine, I admit the weather also plays a role in not running as much this winter since I am a wimp...and only recently discovered YakTraks...and hate the cold).

I digress.

Top Reasons I May Surely Die on Saturday.

~My "diet", if you can call it that...is atrocious. Truly. Thank you, new-found caffeine "addiction" and Starbucks affection....peppermint mocha...what?! Not to mention the fact that we have a number of "candy drawers" at work....that I visit far too often. What, there's some Reece's Peanut Butter Cups in the physical therapists' office?! I'm there! (Yup, those tasty little treats are indeed GLUTEN FREE!).

~We registered for the "long event" on Saturday....750 meters in the pool, 18 miles on a spin bike, and a 5 mile treadmill run. What were we thinking?! There IS a short option! Why on earth would we think we should go for the big 'un?!

~I have been seriously slacking off on swimming. Not a good idea for a triathlon, particularly if it is your weakest skill!

We shall see......
